Winter is passing and Spring has sprung. Yesterday and I was walking from the church to the parsonage I was so enjoying the warm weather. Then as Dawn and I were getting ready to eat our supper and settle in for the evening the Lord provided for us a beautiful sunset with all the colors that are possible. Romans 1:20 (GW) 20  From the creation of the world, God’s invisible qualities, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly observed in what he made. As a result, people have no excuse. This is a great verse as it tells us that God shows His works and reveals Himself in nature and He did just that last night.

As impressive and stunning as that sunset was last night think about all of creation. God has much to say to us in the account of creation and we desperately need to hear and pay attention to the truth of what God says. Why? There are at least four reasons that I see.

  1. When you start reading the book of Genesis the first thing you read at the start of creation is that man was not there when the universe was created. Only God was there! That probably why there is so much debate as to how the world and creation came into existence. We cannot know for sure, not with certainty. Only God knows. If we are to know, and know for sure, where the universe and man came from, God has to tell us. Science can discover a lot about our origin, but it cannot know with absolute certainty how the universe and life came into being. It cannot explain how something can come out of nothing. According to natural law, it is impossible for something to come out of nothing. God knows how that happens because God was there. In Genesis God tells us that He created the world. As a result we need to pay attention to His Word or else we will miss God! The Bible also says that we will have to give an account for our rejection and denial of God. With that thought in mind, how did the account get passed down? Well, I believe it could have happened a couple of ways.

  • God must have shared the account of creation with Adam. Then the account must have been passed on down from generation to generation by believers (either by being written down or word of mouth). And/or,
  • God must have re-shared the creation account with Moses when He called Moses to meet Him on Mount Sinai. It was on Mount Sinai that God gave The Law to Moses which included the creation account. Remember that the law is more than the 10 commandments. It refers to the first 5 books of the Bible which includes Genesis.

With these thoughts in mind, think about how much God loves you to use this much detail first of all to create this beautiful world for us. He created it perfect before creating the first man and woman. Then He created man and woman and gave them their first perfect home for them to live in. Once there, they had such an awesome relationship with God that He told them how He created the plants, the animals, the sun, the moon, the stars, the mountains, the water in the sea, the fish of the sea. I can imagine that story going through Adam’s mind as he was naming the animals, or when he met Eve for the first time. How much God loves us. Next time we’ll talk about the second reason why we need to heed God’s Word here in Genesis. Until then, enjoy God’s awesome creation that He created just for you. Enjoy His love and mercy that He pours out for you.
