1 Peter 2:9
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:
Alright, so we have talked about being a royal priesthood, being a holy nation, and last month we talk about being a peculiar people. It is my prayer that you have seen all that God has done for you and will do for you as you put your trust in Him.
The question then comes, “Why does He do so much for us? Well, I’m glad you asked and the answer can be found in our verse. God does all of this… “that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:” So what does this mean? How about we take it apart and look at little bits and pieces.
The statement “that ye might show forth” means to speak forth; to tell out; to publish abroad, to set forth. The word “praises” means virtues, excellencies, and the supreme and eminent qualities of God. Our task is o witness for God, to share the glorious message of God. What is that message? Note the verse: “the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light” The message that we are to share is the glorious message of salvation. God will deliver us out of darkness into the light. That is what God has done for each one of us.
If you have good news don’t you want to share it with others? Don’t you want to tell your friends, your family, maybe even your enemies that good news? That is what we should be doing for God. We need to be sharing the fact that God makes us a “royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people.” We need to share the there is hope, that we can come out of the darkness into His wonderful light. That the darkness of sin and death no longer have a hold on us. That we are delivered into light and eternity. That we will live forever!! We are to praise God, proclaim the message to all that we come in contact with.
I wonder, do you know your purpose? It is to have that relationship with God through Jesus Christ, and then to get out and tell all about His wonderful works in you. Tell someone today what God has done for you. Share His blessings with others. Tell them how He sustained you today, how He provided for you today, how He protected you today, and all because you are a royal priesthood, bought by Him. Have a blessed day and month and I’ll be seeing some of you around the church. Lift up your head and walk in the victory that is yours.
