I remember when my kids were growing up the unrelenting amount of questions they always asked me.  “Are we there yet?”  “Why are you doing that?”

“Daddy, why is the sky blue?”

“Because God created it that way.”

“Why did God create it that way?”

“I don’t know, but aren’t you glad He did.”

“Why don’t you know?”

The questions just kept coming.  Well, now that I have grandchildren and they are going through that phase it is quite interesting to hear my children deal with that.  Of course most of the time the answer is, “Because I said so.” Andrew’s eldest spends some time with us on Wednesday’s at the church before Bible Study.  A couple of weeks ago Andrew and I were hanging the wreaths in the Sanctuary.  We were using the cherry picker and Olivia was “helping” us.  I asked her to move so that I could move the cherry picker and she very politely asked, “Why Granddad?”  I was getting ready to ask her when her father jumped in and said, “Because he said so.”  I almost laughed out loud.  I then explained it to her and she asked a hundred more questions.  We had a great talk together and when it was time for them to leave she didn’t want to go, she wanted to stay with me.  Warmed my heart.

I shared in my last blog that I’m reading a book written by Mark Batterson called “The Graverobber.”  Yesterday I was reading one of the chapters and in that he share some statistics that got me to thinking about our relationship with our children.  Rolf Smith did some research about this thought of question.  He states that children ask 125 probing questions per day.  Think about that next time your child starts asking questions.  They are wanting to know things.  Smith goes on to state that adults on the other hand, ask only six probing questions per day.  That simply means that somewhere between childhood and adulthood, we lost 119 question per day!  When did you stop asking questions?  When we stop asking questions we start making assumptions.  On that day our imaginations die out and we stop dreaming.  Mark also states that on that day miracles stop happening.

Do you know that our Heavenly Father loves to answer our questions?  He doesn’t care how many you ask, He doesn’t care how many times you ask them.  James 1 says that if anyone lack wisdom let them ask.  There you have it.  The Bible says to ask your questions.  Isn’t that great!!!!  As tired as we get with our children’s, our grandchildren’s, friends, and families questions, God never tires of our questions.  So here is what I’m thinking, let’s ask away.  Remember that God does not fit into our three or four dimensions.  He is so vast and His knowledge is so far reaching that the whole of the universe can’t hold it.  So what is your question today?  God has the answer, take some time and ask Him.

Until next time, Love to all and have a Merry Christmas.
