This summer we have found ourselves surrounded by one catastrophe after another. We’ve had a hurricane that flooded Houston, one the tore through the Florida Keys and up through the state, the fires out west, one shooting after another, and now the massacre out in Las Vegas. When things like this start to happen, people start to ask, “Is this the end of the world? Is Christ coming back? How do we fix this? Do we need tighter gun laws?”
Now, I can’t speak of the natural disasters or whether or not Christ is coming back soon. Personally, Christ was coming back the day that He left. There were some in the Early Church and down through the ages that believe that Christ was coming back during their time period. Actually, the Bible says that no man knows the time. Jesus Himself said that even He doesn’t know, only the Father knows. However, when the Father gives the nod to His Son, He’ll be coming and when that day comes the only thing that you can do at that point is make sure that you’re ready for His return. If not, then you’ll be lost forever. Which brings me to how we “fix” the problem with all the shootings, the hatred, the protests, and the problems in our society. The problem isn’t about color, it isn’t about gun laws, it isn’t about who is or who isn’t in the White House or on Capital Hill. It isn’t about what Terrorist is in control overseas. The problem has been around since the Garden of Eden and that problem is sin. It came into this world when Adam and Eve took of the fruit of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. When they rebelled against God and what He told them to do. They didn’t follow what He commanded and wanted to do their “own” thing. Ever since that day, mankind has been doing that ever since.
You don’t believe me, read your history. You have one ruler after another. You have one terrorist after another who has always wanted to rule the world. Take the fight to the next level. To wipe out the Christians. To silence the Bible. To create the more dominant race. To let their hatred rule them and let them run rampant over anyone and anything that got in their way. It takes place from the highest ranking official down to the person that lives right next door to you. The problem with society is sin. The only way to deal with that is to admit that we have a sin problem and to start looking at ourselves and stop looking at others. We have to start looking at our own hearts and realize that I’m a sinner in need of a Savior.
I thank the Lord today that God sent a Savior. His name is Jesus. He saw the condition of man. He saw the sin and the separation from God. He came and became the final sacrifice to pay for all sin. He died on the cross for you and for me. For the ones that have been gunned down. He died for the shooter. He died so that we might live. He shed His blood so that we don’t have to. He paid a debt that we couldn’t. This is something that you can’t legislate. This is something that you can’t enforce. This is a choice. You have to choose Him. He stands at the door of your heart and knocks. If you want to end the hatred, we need the Lord. We need the Love of the Lord. If you want to end racism, we need the Lord. The Lord doesn’t look at the skin, He looks at the heart. That’s what we should be all about. Looking at the heart and not at the color of the skin, where you came from, what your “special needs” might be. We all have special needs. We all have shortcomings. We all fall short of the Glory of God. Because we all have sinned. But thanks be to God for the saving Grace of Jesus Christ Who picks us up out of the pit of sin and despair and places us on the solid ground.
So, what should we do? Give our lives to the Lord. That’s the only answer to the problem in our world today. Are there going to be natural disasters? Yes, there’s no getting around it. However, we can do something about the hatred in our world today, replace it with the Love of the Lord. Accept Christ and then Share Christ. Let’s tell the world of the cure for what ails them.
Love to all,
Pastor Rob
